OpenAI just announced that it is releasing a new version of ChatGPT, its large language model (LLM) chatbot, to GPT-4o, proving that we are getting closer and closer to crossing the Rubicon to the Uncanny Valley and any other “oh my god, this is the end!” phrases you might want to throw in there.

They claim that it is going to be two times faster than their last model.

Two times!

If you haven’t used it in a while, it was already pretty freaking fast, so doubling the speed means we are getting to real-time conversational speak. To make it even weirder, they chose to use their “Sky” voice, which is suspiciously close to Scarlett Johansson’s voice, giving us a vibe that we are Joaquin Phoenix’s character, Theodore, talking to his voice assistant, Samantha, in the movie “Her.”

This makes me both simultaneously in awe and terrified.

I am in awe because I can basically have my own personal assistant. I now have my own Jarvis. I can ask my assistant to help me build a workout routine catered to my preferences (hopefully, it involves sitting on a couch), learn a new language or math theory or any other educational choice I may have, or make shopping and dinner plans for the week.
